  • 1 cup sourdough discard Use room temperature discard for better mixing.
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Melted.
  • 1 cup sugar Granulated.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder Unsweetened.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute gluten-free flour.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips Optional ingredient.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, melt the butter, then stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined.
  3. Mix in the sourdough discard until smooth.
  4. Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, and salt, then stir until just combined.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let cool before cutting into squares and serving.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, dust with powdered sugar or drizzle melted chocolate on top for extra flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or refrigerate. For longer storage, freeze the brownies wrapped in plastic wrap for up to 3 months.
