  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey Use your preferred type of meat
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
Spices
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. In a large pot, cook the ground beef or turkey over medium heat until browned. Drain the excess fat.
  2. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot. Cook until the onion is soft, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Stir in the kidney beans, black beans, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce.
  4. Add the chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together well.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Let it cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.

Notes

This dish is wonderful on its own, but you can enhance it with shredded cheese, sour cream, or sliced green onions. To store leftovers, keep the cooled chili in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days in the refrigerator or freeze for up to 3 months.
