Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Make sure to measure correctly for best results.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Should be at room temperature.
  • 1 cup brown sugar Packed brown sugar works best.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs Can substitute with applesauce if needed.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Mix-ins
  • 2 cups chocolate chips Use high-quality chocolate for richer flavor.
  • 1 cup chopped nuts Optional; can use your favorite type.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually blend this dry mixture into the creamed mixture.
  5. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
  6. Spread the dough evenly into the prepared pan.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, until the edges are golden.
  2. Allow the cookie bars to cool in the pan before cutting them into squares.

Notes

For freshness, store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. You can freeze them for up to 3 months. Thaw for 10 minutes before serving. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat.
