Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to broil.
- Slice the pack of Hawaiian rolls horizontally. Place them cut side up, side-by-side, on a lined baking sheet.
- Melt 4 tablespoons of butter and use a basting brush to butter the inside of all the rolls.
- Broil in the oven for 3-4 minutes until golden brown, watching closely to prevent burning.
Cooking
- Reduce the heat to bake at 350 degrees.
- In a large mixing bowl, add the ground beef, salt, and cracked pepper. Mix well.
- Press the seasoned beef evenly into a 9x13 casserole dish and bake for 20 minutes.
- While the beef is cooking, sauté the diced onions in a pan over low heat with 1 tablespoon of butter until browned, about 15 minutes.
- Once the beef is cooked, drain well, discarding the pan juices.
Assembly and Baking
- Assemble the sliders: with the buns still on the baking pan, add a layer of pickles to the bottom of the toasted buns.
- Using two spatulas, carefully transfer the slab of beef onto the bottom buns.
- Top with a double layer of cheese followed by an even layer of onions, then place the top buns back on.
- Brush the top buns with 1 tablespoon of melted butter. If desired, sprinkle with sesame seeds.
- Return to the oven for another 15 minutes or until the cheese has fully melted.
Notes
These sliders are best served warm. Pair them with crispy potato chips, fresh salad, or sweet potato fries. You can customize toppings based on preference, like adding jalapeños or fresh lettuce and tomato.
