  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons) Can also use instant yeast.
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1.5 cups warm water Make sure the water is warm but not hot.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted Can substitute with a mild oil.

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, salt, and flour gradually until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size (about 1-2 hours).
  5. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
  6. Place the loaf in a greased loaf pan and let it rise again until doubled (about 30-60 minutes).
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Let cool before slicing.

Notes

To keep your Craftsman Bread fresh, store it at room temperature in a breadbox or in a paper bag. For longer storage, wrap it tightly and freeze. Reheat in the oven when ready to enjoy.
